Low Iodine Cookbook for Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer patients with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer often receive a dose of radioactive iodine (RAI) about two months after their surgery in an attempt to destroy (ablate) any remaining thyroid cells in their bodies.  Most thyroid cancer patients also undergo whole-body radioiodine scans at periodic intervals, using a “tracer” dose of RAI. If their scan is not “clean”, they then receive treatment with a larger dose of RAI in an attempt to destroy any remaining thyroid cells in their bodies.  In preparation for an RAI scan or an RAI treatment, patients are usually asked to go on a low-iodine diet.

Foods That Prevent Cancer And Act Like Medicine

Eating well could soon take on an entirely new meaning.  Research shows that certain foods may help prevent disease.  Scientists have zeroed in on dozens of foods you should dig in to more regularly because they may help prevent cancer, heart disease and more.  The secret may lie in the hundreds of chemicals hidden in everyday foods.
For  example, many fruits and vegetables contain anti-oxidants, including beta carotene and vitamins C and E.  These substances have the ability to inhibit free radicals, harmful molecules that circulate in the body and damage healthy tissue.  Potentially dramatic health benefits can also be derived from other chemicals in the food and fibre.  Vitamin supplements do not offer the same benefits because pills don't contain the same unique and potent chemicals that are naturally present in foods.  So - eat up!

Apricots
A super source of anti-oxidents, beta carotene and vitamin C.  Studies suggest orange and green fruit and vegetable help protect against lung cancer.  Apricots are full of fibre.

Aromatherapy Benefits Essential Oil Description and Uses

AROMATHERAPY  is a natural therapy that uses essential oils extracted from the bark, leaves, blossoms and roots of plants, herbs and flowers.  Although the term was first coined by French Chemist Renee Maurice Gattefosse in 1928, for thousands of years humankind has successfully delved into nature's pantry exploring the soothing, balancing and beautifying properties of these wondrous essenses.
How to use essential oils
Although they are natural, essential oils are volatile substances and can also be very potent.  Therefore, you should always use them sparingly by the drop, and always with care.
Vapourisation
By using an oil burner (vapouriser) at home and at work you can benefit from essential oils 24 hours a day.  Simply fill the dispenser bowl with hotwater, add 5-10 drops of your favourite oil, light the burner candle, and let the magnificient aroma envelop you.
Massage
An aromatherapy massage promotes circulation  and can relax or stimulate according to your mood and the oils used.  To make your own massage blend, add 5 drops of essential oil to 10 mls of a cold pressed organic oil such as jojoba oil.
Bathing
Bathing is the most invigorating way you can use essential oils, as it helps unblock congested pores and ease muscle tension and fatigue.  Bathing with essential oils relaxes tired bodies, quietens the mind and calms the spirit.  Add 10 drops of oil to a full bath.  To tantalise the senses combine two or three oils.

Sugar Baby

Expectant mums should up their intake of low GI foods as their belly grows to help ward off gestational diabetes -a disease that rose by 124 percent among Aussie women between 2004 and 2008.  Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney, Jenny Brand-Miller, and dietian Jimmy Louie have embarked on their first clinical trial t prove a link between a low GI diet and gestational diabetes which occurs when heavily pregnant women are unable to use glucose efficiently and need more insulin to counteract rising sugar levels.
